The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT) held a workshop in Bogotá on the role of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) in generating financial intelligence, with a focus on strengthening the application and results of strategic analysis. The event marked the first of three sessions under GAFILAT’s project to strengthen the regional financial intelligence value chain. The workshop brought together delegates from GAFILAT member countries and international experts and covered both strategic and operational analysis, including tools and good practices to improve the production and use of financial intelligence. A dedicated panel on “From intelligence to action” convened prosecutors and supervisory authorities to discuss how FIU intelligence products are incorporated into supervisory work and criminal prosecution, including expectations, limitations and opportunities. The workshop forms part of the priority actions under Guatemala’s 2025 GAFILAT Presidency Action Plan, and two further project sessions are planned.
