Ecuador’s Financial and Monetary Policy and Regulation Board has accepted the voluntary resignation of Guillermo Avellán Solines as General Manager of the Central Bank of Ecuador and assigned Deputy General Manager Jorge Ponce Donoso to serve as acting General Manager to ensure continuity during the transition. Avellán had served as General Manager since 9 June 2021 and, during his tenure, advanced initiatives including the minting of national fractional coinage, a gold commercialisation programme, a change to the national accounts base year, and the launch of new economic statistics products. The Board is selecting a new permanent General Manager in accordance with Article 50 of the Monetary and Financial Organic Code.
