The European Systemic Risk Board has awarded the 2026 Ieke van den Burg Prize for research on systemic risk to “Banking on inattention” by Xu Lu and Lingxuan Wu. The selection followed a competitive process with peer reviews by members of the ESRB Advisory Scientific Committee. The winning paper will be presented at the tenth annual ESRB conference on 1-2 October 2026. The Advisory Scientific Committee also recognized three runners-up, covering global foreign exchange funding, preferred habitat effects in short-term rates, and regulatory model secrecy and bank reporting discretion. A selection of the papers submitted for the prize will also be published in the ESRB Working Paper Series.
