The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank unveiled redesigned Eastern Caribbean banknotes that no longer feature the late Queen Elizabeth II and instead highlight national heroes and prominent figures from the eight member countries of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union. The new series is presented as a change in the representation of EC currency while preserving the security and integrity of the EC dollar. The XCD 100 note features Sir William Arthur Lewis and Sir John George Melvin Compton, the XCD 50 note Sir K. Dwight Venner and Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw, the XCD 20 note Sir Vere Cornwall Bird Snr and Dame Mary Eugenia Charles, the XCD 10 note William Henry Bramble and James Ronald Webster, and the XCD 5 note Robert Milton Cato and Sir Kirani James. The redesign follows a decision by the Monetary Council at its 105th meeting on July 21, 2023, to replace Queen Elizabeth II’s image on EC currency, after which consultations held between July and December 2023 found strong public support for featuring national heroes and nation builders.
