The National Bank of Bulgaria will open its cash desks and the countrywide branches of Cash Services Company JSC on four Saturdays in January 2026 to handle increased demand for exchanging Bulgarian lev banknotes and coins into euros following Bulgaria’s euro area accession from 1 January 2026. At the BNB headquarters in Sofia (1 Knyaz Aleksandar I Square), cash operations will be limited to individuals exchanging banknotes and coins in the dual-circulation period and withdrawn cash that remains within the exchange deadline, operating 08:30–15:45 without a break. The BNB Cash Centre in Sofia (10 Mihail Tenev St) will provide the same services for individuals and will also exchange coins for legal entities, operating 08:30–15:45 without a break. Cash Services Company JSC branches in Sofia (Ovcha Kupel), Pleven, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas will exchange banknotes and coins from BGN to EUR for clients, operating 08:30–16:00 with a break from 12:00–12:30; the BNB also reiterated that Bulgarian-national-side euro coins can be used throughout the euro area and in various non-euro jurisdictions and territories where the euro is accepted.
