The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public following a China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited press release about a fraudulent website and internet banking login screen that has been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing users to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email, or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Individuals who provided personal information or carried out transactions via the fraudulent website or login screen were advised to contact the bank using the contact details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
