The Isle of Man Treasury has established an interim Border Division as the first step toward creating a permanent Border Agency. The division will strengthen border enforcement and immigration controls in response to concerns over potential immigration system abuse, labour exploitation, illegal immigration and organised criminal activity. Staff and resources from the Customs and Immigration Division will transfer into the new Border Division and a separate Customs and Excise Division. The government has allocated about GBP 1.2 million for 2026-27 and plans to create 17 posts across frontline enforcement, investigations, intelligence, telecommunications and policing. The Border Division will also establish its management structure, assess resource and legislative needs, and prepare a project plan for the permanent agency.
