The Advisory Committee on Sustainability Reporting, chaired by the Securities Commission Malaysia, has published a consultation paper seeking feedback on a proposed framework for sustainability assurance, including an external assurance requirement for sustainability reporting by companies in scope of the National Sustainability Reporting Framework. The proposals cover adoption of international sustainability assurance standards, oversight arrangements for assurance providers, competency requirements for assurance leaders, and timelines for introducing external assurance. The framework is positioned as a response to greenwashing concerns and as a means to support investor confidence in companies’ sustainability reports. The consultation runs from 25 June 2025 to 6 August 2025, and the paper is available on the Securities Commission Malaysia website.
