The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued a public alert about reported fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens related to Chong Hing Bank Limited, directing the public to the bank’s press release via a link on the HKMA website. The HKMA reiterated that banks do not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks that direct customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and do not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks). Individuals who may have provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through the relevant websites or login screens were advised to contact the bank using the information in the bank’s press release and to report the matter to the Police.
