The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) announced a Research Grant Competition inviting proposals focused on the competitiveness of Ontario’s capital markets. The competition is open to researchers who work at, or are enrolled in, a Canadian academic institution, with up to five proposals to receive grants of USD 30,000 each. A panel of industry professionals and OSC staff will review submissions and select winning proposals, which will be published on the OSC website. The OSC highlighted longer-term topics intended to generate informed debate and deepen stakeholder understanding, including comparative competitiveness across jurisdictions, factors affecting Canadian junior markets, the market impact of expanding retail access to private markets and innovative investment products, and comparative costs and efficiencies of raising capital in private versus public markets. Applications are due by February 27, 2026. The OSC will select winning proposals and notify applicants by April 17, 2026, and completed research papers are due by August 14, 2026.
