The National Bank of Moldova published October 2025 statistics on new bank lending and applied interest rates, showing newly granted loans totalled MDL 7,044.4 million, down 2.7% from the previous month. Loans denominated in Moldovan lei accounted for 71.1% of the total (MDL 5,009.3 million), while the average nominal rate on new leu loans decreased by 0.13 percentage points to 9.22% and the average rate on foreign-currency loans increased by 0.10 percentage points to 5.26%. Loans with maturities of two to five years were the most common, representing 53.7% of new lending, with lending in this tenor to legal entities making up 32.7% of the overall total. Households contracted MDL 2,431.9 million in new loans (down 2.2%), primarily for consumption (61.6%); most consumer lending to individuals (MDL 1,338.5 million) was in lei with maturities of two to five years, while mortgages represented 37.9% of household borrowing and were predominantly denominated in lei. Average leu rates fell to 11.02% for consumer loans and 8.17% for mortgage loans. New borrowing by legal entities amounted to MDL 4,478.5 million (down 3.9%), with non-financial companies accounting for 94.1% of corporate lending and 59.9% of total new lending; the average leu rate on corporate loans declined by 0.29 percentage points to 8.46%, while the average foreign-currency rate rose by 0.10 percentage points to 5.26%.
