The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued a scam alert to the public after receiving a report related to Welab Bank Limited concerning fraudulent websites, a fake mobile application, and phishing instant messages. The HKMA reiterated that banks do not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks that direct customers to bank websites to conduct transactions, and do not request sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email, or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or carried out financial transactions in response to the scams was advised to contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force Crime Wing Information Centre.
