HM Treasury announced measures projected to save British businesses almost GBP 800 million a year through reduced regulatory administration and extended import tariff suspensions. The package includes simpler corporate reporting, reduced duplicate reporting for asset managers and measures to ease compliance for small businesses. Ministers also accepted the majority of recommendations from the Small Business Taskforce. Regulatory administration savings are projected to exceed GBP 600 million annually, including up to GBP 290 million from streamlined company reporting, GBP 105 million from reduced duplicative reporting for asset managers and GBP 116 million from simplifying property transactions. Corporate reporting reforms could save businesses within a wider national group up to GBP 20,000 annually. Small business measures include standardising public procurement requirements in sectors such as construction, reducing Office for National Statistics survey requests and simplifying access to government guidance. The package also pauses the Companies House profit and loss filing requirement planned for April 2028 as part of the government’s ambition to avoid repeated requests for the same information. Import tariff suspensions covering more than 250 products, previously due to expire on Dec. 31, will be extended until December 2028, maintaining savings of up to GBP 155 million annually. The measures support the existing target to reduce businesses’ regulatory administrative burden by 25% by the end of Parliament. Details of individual administrative savings measures qualifying toward that target will be published on Oct. 28.
