In a speech at the 10th Annual European Compliance and Legal Conference, Hanzo van Beusekom of the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets called for a unified European response to rapid changes affecting financial markets. He focused on resilience, artificial intelligence and Europe’s role, alongside the conditions needed for successful centralized supervision. The remarks reinforce the authority’s recent support for stronger European Union-level supervision. In a joint position with the French Financial Markets Authority, it identified five conditions for an effective model centered on the European Securities and Markets Authority, including risk-based and proportionate oversight, transparent governance, centralized data and effective enforcement.
