The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has appointed J. Russell “Rusty” McGranahan as General Counsel, making him the agency’s chief legal officer responsible for providing legal expertise and advice to the Office of the Chairman, Commissioners and SEC staff. Jeffrey Finnell, who had been serving as Acting General Counsel, will remain at the Commission as Deputy General Counsel. The SEC noted McGranahan’s prior roles as General Counsel of the U.S. General Services Administration and Focus Financial Partners, and his earlier experience at BlackRock as Managing Director, M&A Counsel and Corporate Secretary, alongside private practice experience.
