The Bank of the Republic of Burundi, supported by the World Bank’s PRETE project, held a validation workshop on a draft decree that would amend the existing framework for movable security interests and set the operating rules for the National Register of Movable Security Interests. The register is intended to operate as a fully electronic platform for receiving notices, storing notice information, enabling public searches, and publicising movable security interests. The digitalised register would also manage creditor priority electronically and provide secure data archiving. The Bank of the Republic of Burundi would act as the registry’s administrative authority, with responsibility for technical and operational management, continuous platform availability, data protection and security, maintenance, data archiving, execution of court decisions, and production of statistics.
