The Bank of Namibia has announced the launch of a NAD 60 commemorative banknote in honour of the late President Dr Hage G Geingob, with the note scheduled for official issuance on 17 March 2025 and intended to circulate alongside existing banknotes and coins as legal tender and a collector’s item. The central bank said the NAD 60 denomination reflects Dr Geingob’s 60 years of service to Namibia. Printed on polymer, the note includes a portrait of Dr Geingob in a transparent window and the Independence Memorial Museum in a secondary transparent window, supported by security features such as coloured intaglio print, Argentum silver ink, gold accents visible when tilted, mirror-like ink effects, a rolling bar colour-change feature on the Bank of Namibia logo, microtext reading “Forward Ever, Backward Never, 60”, raised tactile dots for the visually impaired, a custom serial number starting with “HGG”, and ultraviolet elements including the Namibian flag and a glowing “60”. The Bank of Namibia will run a public education campaign ahead of issuance to familiarise the public with the commemorative banknote’s features.
