The European Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) has invited SHEIN to attend its 27 January meeting, after repeated invitations in recent months were declined, as the committee intensifies oversight of online marketplaces’ compliance with EU product safety, consumer protection and online platform rules and of the European Commission’s enforcement within the single market. At its 4 December 2025 meeting, Members of the European Parliament urged the Commission to step up action against illegal and unsafe goods entering the EU, citing large online platforms including SHEIN and Temu. Members criticised slow enforcement and uneven application across Member States, called for regular dialogue with platforms and updates to relevant legislation including customs reforms to identify high-risk consignments earlier, and warned that fragmented national measures strain enforcement authorities and allow cross-border loopholes to be exploited. IMCO also signalled it will hold regular scrutiny sessions with the Commission and stakeholders.
