The Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) announced the launch of a new thought leadership webinar series focused on developments shaping the future of finance in Canada, with an emphasis on themes linked to investor protection, market integrity, and regulatory efficiency. The inaugural episode features CIRO Chief Executive Officer Andrew Kriegler in conversation with Sarah Paquet, Chief Executive Officer of FINTRAC, Canada’s financial intelligence unit and anti-money laundering regulator. Topics include regulatory challenges related to digital assets, cryptocurrencies, blockchain platforms and decentralized finance, how CIRO and FINTRAC work together to enhance oversight while reducing regulatory burden, FINTRAC initiatives to address emerging financial threats and modernize its approach, and the role of generative artificial intelligence and other evolving technologies in financial intelligence and regulation. CIRO framed the webinar as the start of an ongoing series, with further episodes to follow.
