The National Bank of Moldova reported that citizens and businesses saved about EUR 13.2 million in the 10 months following Moldova’s operational connection to the Single Euro Payments Area on Oct. 6, 2025. SEPA has become the country’s main channel for cross-border euro payments, accounting for nearly eight in 10 transactions. The average cost of a cross-border euro transfer fell from fees ranging between EUR 20 and EUR 150 to EUR 1.09. The 960,000 transfers completed since connection cost about EUR 1 million through SEPA, compared with an estimated EUR 14.2 million through the traditional SWIFT system. Average daily transaction volumes increased by about 1,750, while the total value of transactions rose 57% to EUR 14.6 billion between October 2025 and July 2026, from EUR 9.3 billion in comparable earlier periods.
