The Union of Arab Securities Authorities (UASA) participated in the 64th World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) General Assembly and Annual Meeting in Istanbul, with its Secretary General, Jalil Tarif, speaking in a session on how securities regulators can support market development while maintaining core oversight responsibilities. Hosted by Borsa Istanbul from 21–23 October, the meeting convened exchange leaders, regulators, academics and media to discuss issues including market structure, technology and regulation. In the session “The Role of the Regulator in Market Development”, participants examined regulators’ evolving roles beyond supervision, enforcement and resilience monitoring, including how to enable market evolution without weakening mandates, how to address the rise of “Finfluencers”, how to balance competition with systemic stability, and how to manage the trade-off between regulatory caution and innovation.
