The industry’s return on assets was 1.37%, while community bank net income increased 8.2%. Capital and liquidity levels remained strong. The industry’s net interest margin rose 1 basis point to 3.32%. Loans grew 1.8% quarter over quarter and 6.8% year over year, while domestic deposits increased 0.8% for an eighth consecutive quarterly gain. Asset quality improved as past-due and nonaccrual rates and net charge-off rates declined, and the Deposit Insurance Fund reserve ratio rose 5 basis points to 1.48%.
