The New Brunswick Financial and Consumer Services Commission issued a fraud alert warning that scammers are cold calling New Brunswickers claiming to represent a purported “Carleton Credit Union” in Centreville, NB and soliciting investments. The Commission said no such credit union is registered with it and no entity using that name is registered to deal or advise in securities or derivatives in New Brunswick. The scam includes directing targets to phony websites to lend legitimacy to the investment offer. The Commission identified three domains using variations of the fake credit union name and noted that all list 3143 Main St., Centreville, NB, which it said is the actual address of Brunswick Credit Union, a legitimate registered credit union that has been notified. The Commission urged the public not to share personal or banking details in response to unsolicited outreach, to pause before investing, and to verify whether a person or firm is licensed or registered with the Commission (including via corporate registry information for credit unions and the National Registration Search). It also encouraged anyone who believes they may have been a victim to report the matter to the Commission.
