Mexico's National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF) published consumer-complaint statistics for the state of Hidalgo covering January to August 2025, reporting 3,027 complaints, a 12.0% decrease versus the same period in 2024 and 1.7% of the national total. Over the same period, the amount claimed totalled MXN 114.7 million (up 25.2% year on year) and the amount recovered reached MXN 25.1 million (up 80.6%). Complaints came from users in all 84 municipalities, with Pachuca accounting for 26.4% of cases, followed by Mineral de la Reforma (12.8%), Tulancingo (6.2%) and Tizayuca (5.1%). Most matters were handled through CONDUSEF’s Electronic Management process (61.6%), with 21.0% processed via the REDECO channel for issues related to debt collection agencies. Credit cards, debit cards and personal loans represented 45.7% of complaints, while the leading causes were unrecognised purchases, debt-collection threats or intimidation, and unrecognised electronic transfers (26.9% combined). By sector, commercial banks accounted for 63.3% of complaints, insurers for 12.9% and SOFOM EN for 9.5%; within commercial banks, 24.5% of complaints involved older adults and 49.0% were linked to possible fraud, mainly unrecognised purchases and unrecognised electronic transfers.
