The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority’s Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Baghayo Saqware, held a special meeting with the Tanzania Insurance Brokers Association in Dar es Salaam to discuss strategies to strengthen Tanzania’s insurance sector, framed as part of TIRA’s ongoing stakeholder engagements and its customer protection mandate. Insurance brokers called for improvements to insurance guidelines and related rules to support their business operations, while participants also exchanged experiences on unlocking growth opportunities across the sector. The Commissioner indicated that concrete steps would be taken to implement the feedback, and urged brokers to pursue opportunities linked to policy priorities including universal health insurance, agricultural and livestock insurance, and the introduction of compulsory insurance for large public gatherings such as markets, alongside expanded insurance education, increased rural penetration, and coordinated awareness work with TIRA’s Public Relations and Communication Unit.
