Mexico's Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, through the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), announced that a Florida state court in Miami entered judgment for the Mexican state in a civil asset recovery action linked to an illicit public procurement scheme associated with former federal Public Security Secretary Genaro García Luna. The ruling orders members of the Weinberg family and related companies to pay USD 578.5 million as compensation for damage caused to the Mexican state. According to the ministry, the proceedings showed that individuals and companies participated in mechanisms to obtain public contracts improperly and then transfer and conceal the funds, based on financial documents, witness testimony and evidence obtained through international legal cooperation. The judgment is part of an agreement under which the parties must surrender identified assets in multiple jurisdictions for liquidation and partial payment of the court-awarded sums, with the UIF tasked with overseeing execution alongside the relevant authorities. Combined with judgments issued in May 2025 against García Luna and his spouse for more than USD 2.448 billion, the total amount awarded to the Mexican state in this scheme now exceeds USD 3.067 billion.
