The Intergovernmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa has issued a notice of expression of interest to appoint individual country researchers for Benin, Cabo Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. One consultant will be selected per country to support a typology study on trade-based financial crimes, with the stated objective of identifying techniques, methods, patterns and trends across GIABA member states. The assignments are intended to assess money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing risks linked to trade, review the legal and institutional response in each country, identify commercial vulnerabilities and enforcement challenges, and develop red flags and practical recommendations for policymakers, regulators, law enforcement, international partners and the private sector. Applicants must have at least a first degree in social sciences or another relevant field and a minimum of five years' experience conducting research, particularly on money laundering, terrorist financing, proliferation financing or related predicate crimes. Selected researchers will be required to produce country reports of 20 to 25 pages through an inception report, draft reports and a final report following a regional validation workshop. Applications are due by 26 June 2025 at 17:00 GMT, and the evaluation will be based on qualifications, assignment-specific experience and proficiency in ECOWAS official languages under the ECOWAS consultant selection rules.
