The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has issued a public notice dismissing as false a social media post that claims Governor Dr John Mushayavanhu supports an initiative promising USD 6,500 per month for Zimbabweans who open bank accounts with USD 230. The Bank said the post is a scam and uses an artificial intelligence-generated voice to impersonate the Governor, falsely portraying him as being interviewed by SABC News and promoting a fictitious system that supposedly increases account balances automatically. The RBZ reported the fake accounts and urged the public to avoid engaging with the post and similar “get rich quick” initiatives.
