The Superintendency of Banks of Panama opened its ninth awareness conference, focusing on how regulatory change, financial innovation and increasingly sophisticated criminal organizations are reshaping the prevention and management of financial crime risks. The event continues the authority’s forum series on strengthening compliance culture and risk controls across supervised financial institutions. Superintendent of Banks Milton Ayón Wong emphasized that effective prevention requires institutions to continually reassess their approaches and strengthen their methodologies as risks evolve. He called for coordinated responsibility across boards, senior management, compliance, audit and risk management functions, as well as other employees. The conference covered regulatory developments, emerging money laundering and terrorist financing trends, and risks associated with new technologies, reflecting the authority’s emphasis on risk based supervision aligned with international standards.
