The Bank of the Lao, together with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), convened a stakeholder seminar to gather open feedback on a draft Laos Green Finance Taxonomy, a proposed standard for classifying green business activities. The taxonomy is intended to promote green finance and provide a reference for supervisors, financial institutions and other market participants to determine which activities qualify as green and sustainable in the Lao PDR, aligned with ASEAN and international standards. More than 100 participants attended the Vientiane seminar, including departments within the central bank, ministries and agencies, commercial banks, non-bank financial institutions, development partners and international organisations. The agenda included an overview of the draft taxonomy and deeper discussion across five topics presented by the team responsible for implementation. The Bank of the Lao indicated that the feedback collected will be reviewed and incorporated to refine and complete the draft taxonomy so it better reflects local conditions while remaining consistent with ASEAN and international standards.
