The European Council has appointed Boris Vujcic as Vice-President of the European Central Bank (ECB) for a non-renewable eight-year term, replacing Luis de Guindos from 1 June 2026. The appointment followed consultations with the European Parliament and the ECB’s Governing Council, in line with Article 283(2) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, under which the European Council acts by qualified majority on a recommendation from the Council. The Eurogroup supported Vujcic’s candidacy on 19 January and the Council adopted its recommendation to the European Council on 26 January 2026.
