At the Global Conference on Criminal Finances and Cryptoassets, Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Executive Board Member Simonas Krepšta outlined the authority’s Crypto Action Plan for 2026 and beyond. The plan focuses on building an EU-wide understanding of crypto-related money laundering and terrorist financing risks, promoting supervisory convergence, strengthening analytical capabilities and improving cooperation among relevant EU stakeholders. AMLA is analyzing risks in the crypto sector and expects to reflect its findings in a forthcoming report. While the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation and the new anti-money laundering and counterterrorist financing package have strengthened the regulatory framework, Krepšta said vulnerabilities remain and the fragmented blockchain analytics landscape requires an EU-level response. He emphasized that effective implementation, consistent supervision and stronger analytical capabilities are needed alongside regulation to address crypto-related financial crime.
