The Central Bank of The Bahamas has directed entities and individuals to immediately cease manufacturing, reproducing, selling, distributing or promoting unauthorized items that resemble Bahamian banknotes and coins. The notice follows an increase in the use of designs, images, symbols and other features resembling currency issued by the Central Bank as legal tender. Prior written approval is required to make, design, reproduce, use, issue or publish items likely to be confused with Central Bank-issued notes, coins or electronic money. The Central Bank may take enforcement action against noncompliant persons, including referral for prosecution where warranted.
