The Bank of the Lao and the Asian Development Bank convened a two-day technical seminar on accounting under International Financial Reporting Standard 9 for 50 officials from the central bank and Ministry of Finance. The program supports the banking sector’s transition toward international accounting standards and builds on earlier work on IFRS 9 expected credit loss model validation and readiness for full IFRS adoption in 2028. The seminar covers implementation experience in Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and Hong Kong, including developing roadmaps and collecting and analyzing probability of default, loss given default and exposure at default data for expected credit loss models. Speakers from the Asian Development Bank, regional central banks and external audit firms are also addressing practical implementation challenges.
