The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority published an update from the 11th Zanzibar International Trade Fair in which Tanzania’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Dr Selemani Jafo, called for strategic projects to be insured by domestic insurance companies to support development of the local insurance sector. Jafo urged TIRA to ensure all strategic government projects in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar are insured locally to retain funds in the country and expand insurance market participation. TIRA’s Unguja Zonal Office manager, Awanje Matenda, briefed the minister on the authority’s mandate to register, supervise and develop the insurance market, current market strategies, and the responsibilities of the Tanzania Insurance Disputes Mediator Office; participation in the fair was framed as part of ongoing public education and awareness on insurance.
