Latvia's Ministry of Finance announced that the Cabinet has taken a conceptual decision for Latvia to join Bruegel, a Brussels-based economic policy think tank. The move is intended to support preparations for Latvia's presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2028 and to strengthen Latvia's participation in shaping EU economic and financial policy. Membership would give Latvia access to independent analytical expertise and closer cooperation with European researchers and policymakers on economic, financial, competitiveness, energy, climate and geopolitical issues. It would also allow Latvian representatives, institutions and academic participants to take part in expert discussions, high-level conferences and Bruegel's discussions on strategic priorities and governance, while Bruegel researchers could contribute to the substance of meetings and policy debates organised during the presidency.
