In remarks at the Macedonian Stock Exchange’s 30th anniversary event, the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Republic of North Macedonia’s chair, Bujaré Abazi, emphasised trust as the foundation of capital market development and pointed to the expected implementation of a new legal framework for the capital market. The upcoming framework is intended to increase compliance with European standards, strengthen regulatory capacity and improve investor protection. Abazi also highlighted European Commission support for preparing a three-year strategy for regulatory and institutional strengthening and referenced efforts to deepen regional cooperation, including the forthcoming signing of a Memorandum on Coordinated Regulation and Supervision with several European regulators. She noted continued market challenges, including low liquidity and a limited number of issuers and institutional investors, and said reform and regional integration are expected to help mitigate them. Next steps cited in the address include implementing the new legal framework, completing the three-year strengthening strategy and proceeding with the planned regional memorandum.
