The Portuguese Securities Commission (CMVM) has made the historical series of the Lisbon Stock Exchange Index available on the statistics section of its website, covering 1900 to 2013. The series was compiled by researchers José Rodrigues da Costa, Maria Eugénia Mata and David Justino of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. The release includes underlying information used to calculate the index, including stock prices, the number of shares in circulation, nominal values, dividends, capital increases, stock splits and other corporate events for all listed companies in the period. CMVM noted that comparable long-run market datasets exist for only 21 countries, and framed the publication as part of its Strategic Plan 2025–2028 to support research access to capital markets data. CMVM also committed to update the historical series and publish updates as they become available. A hybrid seminar with the authors is scheduled for 22 April 2025 at 15:00, with registration open until 16 April.
