The Angola Capital Markets Commission used remarks at the 16th Banking Forum to argue that banks and the capital market should be treated as complementary parts of the financial system, and to highlight that the recent review of the securities market’s operating model kept banks involved in core market functions. In the closing speech, the commission’s chair linked financial system credibility to strong institutions, governance, supervision and consistent compliance with commitments. The forum focused on banking’s role in capital market development, including open banking, digital transformation, artificial intelligence in finance, and the internationalization of Angolan banks. It also addressed correspondent banking links, access to foreign currency and closer integration between the banking system and the capital market. Against that backdrop, the commission said the revised market model continues to give banks relevant roles in public securities offerings, securities registration, deposit and custody services, services for nonresident foreign exchange investors and proprietary portfolios, distribution of collective investment schemes and acting as market correspondents.
