Peru's Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Private Pension Funds (SBS) inaugurated the 26th edition of its Extension Programme (PEXT), welcoming 34 participants selected from universities across the country. PEXT forms part of the SBS institutional strategy to train high-potential young professionals in supervision of the financial, insurance, pension and cooperative sectors as a pipeline for entry-level supervisory roles. The 12-week curriculum is structured in five blocks covering the SBS role and functions, supervision and regulation, risk management and supervision, financial analysis and economics, and finance; participants may be invited to join the SBS supervisory team subject to available vacancies and a further selection process. The cohort is 56% women, and teaching will be delivered by SBS staff alongside national and international experts, with support for international instruction from organisations including Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the US Federal Reserve and the Association of Supervisors of Banks of the Americas (ASBA).
