The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) has issued a notice of proposal initiating enforcement action against Poonam Chauhan, alleging she is not suitable to be licensed under Ontario’s Insurance Act and related regulations. FSRA is proposing to revoke Chauhan’s insurance agent licence and levy administrative penalties totalling CAD 35,000. The proposal is based on allegations that Chauhan made false or misleading statements in the solicitation or registration of insurance, contrary to section 17(c) of Ontario Regulation 347/04, and that she hindered and obstructed FSRA’s investigation, contrary to section 446(1) of the Insurance Act. Chauhan has requested a hearing before the Financial Services Tribunal regarding FSRA’s proposal.
