The Czech National Bank reported a CZK 17.2 billion current account deficit for August 2026, narrower than the CZK 34.2 billion deficit in July but wider than the CZK 8.8 billion shortfall a year earlier. A CZK 19.3 billion surplus in goods and services was outweighed by primary income outflows, including CZK 21.8 billion of foreign direct investment dividends, and a CZK 6.2 billion deficit on transactions with European Union institutions. The cumulative 12-month current account recorded an CZK 11.6 billion deficit, compared with a CZK 52.3 billion surplus in August 2025. The financial account recorded CZK 1.4 billion of net capital inflows. Other investment generated a CZK 36.2 billion inflow, driven mainly by a CZK 30.7 billion increase in nonresidents’ deposits with domestic banks, including the central bank. This was partly offset by net outflows of CZK 9.6 billion from direct investment and CZK 18 billion from portfolio investment, while international reserves increased by CZK 13.1 billion through transactions.
