Peru's Superintendence of Banking, Insurance and Pension Fund Administrators (SBS) issued a public warning that certain money-lending apps operating in Peru are offering and disbursing credit, sometimes even without a user request, while requiring extensive access to users’ phone data as a condition for lending. SBS flagged that these apps can collect and monitor personal information by demanding access to contact lists and photo and video files, and then apply high charges and interest when seeking repayment while threatening to expose borrowers to their contacts or making defamatory allegations. SBS urged the public not to browse for or download these apps, or similar ones, without first checking the requirements and device accesses they request. It identified Monedaya pro – Préstamo seguro, Mano Préstamo – Crédito Rápido, Yapi Cash, Acreditaya – préstamo fácil, CreContigo – Préstamo Rápido, Sol Dinero – Préstamos Perú, CachaiCredito – Préstamo rápido, QullqiFacil – Cash Apoyo, Seda Credito – Préstamo Personal, CredEke – Préstamo fácil, V Crédito – Préstamo fácil, Soles parada – peru credito, and CajaInka, and reiterated that under Legislative Decree No. 1106 and SBS Resolution No. 650-2024, anyone seeking to carry out lending activity must be registered in the SBS register of entities and persons conducting financial or foreign exchange operations and is supervised for AML/CFT purposes by SBS through Peru’s Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF-Perú).
