The Bank of the Lao and the Korea Development Institute held the closing ceremony for the 2025/26 second phase of the Knowledge Sharing Program between the Lao PDR and the Republic of Korea. The event wrapped up a technical cooperation project focused on financial innovation in Laos, including a seminar reviewing implementation results under the theme "Innovating Financial System in Lao PDR: Current Status and Policy Directions." Korean experts presented research findings in three areas: restructuring deposit-taking microfinance institutions, recommendations for establishing primary dealers for government bonds, and a consumer data protection framework. The findings were shared with regulators and service providers and are intended to serve as reference material for policymaking, work plans and related programs. Around 50 participants from Bank of the Lao departments and other relevant bodies attended the event. The half-day seminar also provided a forum for bilateral discussion and exchange of lessons between the two sides. The Bank of the Lao linked the program to closer cooperation with South Korea and to capacity building for its staff.
