The Bank of Botswana announced that Sefremit (Pty) Limited has voluntarily surrendered its Electronic Payment Service Provider licence, which was issued on 9 March 2022, under the licensing powers in Regulation 4(1) of the Electronic Payment Services Regulations, 2019. The Bank advised the public not to transact electronic payment services with any person purporting to trade in the name of Sefremit (Pty) Limited. It added that Sefremit’s operations as a licensed Bureau de Change are not affected, and reminded the public that operating an electronic payment service without a valid Bank-issued licence is a criminal offence under the Regulations.

The Bank of Botswana announced that Sefremit (Pty) Limited has voluntarily surrendered its Electronic Payment Service Provider licence. The public is advised against transacting with entities claiming to operate under Sefremit’s name for electronic payment services. Sefremit’s Bureau de Change operations remain unaffected, and unlicensed electronic payment services are a criminal offence under the Electronic Payment Services Regulations, 2019.
