Zimbabwe's Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion has published a compendium presenting 47 investment opportunities in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province. The projects span industrial and urban development, transport and energy, as well as health, education and other public services. Each entry identifies the promoter, estimated cost, development status, feasibility work and proposed financing model, including public-private partnerships, joint ventures, private capital, loans and government funding. Major opportunities include a USD 115 million railway modernization proposal covering 10 locomotives, 315 wagons and up to 254 kilometers of track, a USD 43 million convention center and hotel, and a USD 26 million 25-megawatt solar plant. The compendium also covers a special economic zone, municipal waste-to-energy and development finance projects, hospital expansion, mining and agro-processing initiatives. Bulawayo accounted for 12.93% of Zimbabwe's provincial gross domestic product in 2024, the country's second-highest provincial contribution, with manufacturing, trade and financial services among its principal economic activities.
