The National Bank of Serbia published updated payment system statistics showing continued growth in payment card use in Serbia in 2025. By the end of 2025, 13.3 million payment cards were issued and nearly 805 million card payments were made, with an average transaction value of RSD 2,250. Card payments at physical points of sale in Serbia totalled 745.7 million purchases using cards issued by domestic payment service providers and 59 million purchases using cards issued abroad, with foreign-issued cards accounting for 7.3% of in-store card payments in 2025 compared with 4.4% in 2020. In-store card purchases rose 18.1% versus 2024 (681.7 million) and were 156% higher than in 2020 (314.4 million). Merchant acceptance infrastructure expanded to 184.7 thousand active POS solutions at the end of 2025 (up 14.8% year on year and 88.9% versus 2020), while the ATM network reached 3,265 machines (up 1.5% year on year and 7.3% versus 2020). In-store card payments increased by 18.1% from 2024, with foreign-issued cards making up 7.3% of these transactions.
