The Reserve Bank of New Zealand will establish separate Assistant Governor roles for Monetary Policy and for Payments and Cash as Assistant Governor Money Karen Silk prepares to leave in mid-December. Silk will remain in post through the December monetary policy decision, supporting continuity during the transition after more than four years at the central bank. Recruitment for both roles will begin shortly. The Reserve Bank Board is expected to recommend the appointee for Assistant Governor Monetary Policy to the Minister of Finance for appointment to the Monetary Policy Committee, while the bank is also arranging a short-term appointment of a new internal committee member. Other organizational changes include a new Chief of Staff role, with the additional Assistant Governor position and related adjustments funded within the operational budget under the 2025-2030 Five-Year Funding Agreement.
