The staff of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Trading and Markets and the Office of General Counsel of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc. (FINRA) have withdrawn, effective immediately, their joint staff statement on broker-dealer custody of digital asset securities. The withdrawn statement was originally issued on July 8, 2019. The SEC noted that the statement reflected staff views rather than a Commission rule or regulation, had no legal force or effect, did not alter or amend applicable law, and created no new or additional obligations.
