The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) has initiated enforcement action against insurance agent Angie Sau Chu Lau by issuing a notice of proposal to revoke her insurance agent licence and impose total administrative penalties of $150,000, alongside an interim suspension order. FSRA alleges Lau is not suitable to be licensed under Ontario’s Insurance Act and that she contravened Ontario Regulation 347/04 by offering inducements and using undue influence to control and direct insurance business (section 17(a)), and by failing to provide written disclosure to clients of any conflict of interest or potential conflict of interest associated with an investment (section 16). Lau has requested a hearing before the Financial Services Tribunal, and the interim suspension has been extended until the hearing concludes, preventing her from conducting insurance agent business while suspended.
